Insights into Organic Vegetable Seeds
Presented By Ecological Farmers Association of Ontario & High Mowing Seeds
Join us as we “lift the veil” of the organic seed world with a behind-the-scenes explanation of organic seed conservation, development, production, and distribution. Topics covered will include: organic variety development; why certain varieties become available/disappear; the importance of conservation and adaptation of biodiverse varieties; current seed production challenges (i.e., why there are limited organic hybrid brassica varieties, why there is unreliable organic carrot seed availability, etc.); post-COVID seed availability concerns; work being done to create farmer-centred, resilient seed systems; Q&A to hear directly from farmers about their experiences and/or frustrations with seed companies and/or seed availability.
