Learn how to cultivate oyster mushrooms in your garden using easy-to-grow methods! Inoculating your garden with mushrooms is a great way to take advantage of under-utilized spaces, improving the quality of your soil, and producing a steady harvest of oysters well into the Fall months. In this beginner workshop, we'll explore two simple methods of outdoor mushroom production: creating mushroom beds, and planting mycelium directly into the soil. We will also discuss important factors to consider when producing outdoors, such as location, materials and seasonality.

This 1 hour class will explore:

- An introduction to the mushroom kingdom

- Physiology

- Role in nature

- Explore outdoor cultivation methods ( directly planting mycelium substrate blocks and a mushroom bed).

- Ideal growing conditions for mycelium, where to grow, fruiting conditions, and harvesting methods.

Fungi Fest Mtl is an educational myco group that wishes to introduce the public to the magical and often overlooked world of mushrooms. We do this by hosting growing workshops ( outdoor cultivation), foraging walks, and fungi based activities. Our biggest event of the year is Fungi Fest Mtl, a mushroomfestival based in Montreal that offers informative talks by mycologists/researchers/producers, hands-on ateliers, and a market full of local artisans and small-scale growers.
